Sapiens in Higher Education (ISSN: 3073-1429) is an international scientific journal specialized in the field of higher education, founded in 2024, dedicated to the dissemination and promotion of original research articles, systematic reviews, and high-quality scholarly essays. Aimed at the global academic community, with particular emphasis on Latin America and the Caribbean, the journal provides a platform for the critical analysis of contemporary challenges in higher education from innovative and interdisciplinary perspectives.

Since its establishment, Sapiens in Higher Education has positioned itself as a peer-reviewed, open-access journal, promoting the dissemination of scientific, pedagogical, and institutional advancements in the university context. Its audience includes researchers, academics, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as administrators and professionals engaged in the development and improvement of higher education systems.

Objective:
Sapiens in Higher Education is an international scientific journal specialized in higher education that operates under an open-access model with no article processing charges (APC). Its objective is to publish original research articles, systematic reviews, and rigorous scholarly essays subject to a double-blind peer-review process. The journal promotes critical, innovative, and evidence-based analysis of teaching, learning, institutional management, and transformation processes within higher education, contributing to the strengthening of high-quality and socially relevant higher education systems.

Mission:
The mission of Sapiens in Higher Education is to establish itself as a leading international scientific journal in the field of higher education by fostering the production, validation, and dissemination of relevant and innovative academic knowledge. The journal seeks to strengthen the relationship between teaching, research, university management, and social development, promoting evidence-based educational practices, academic quality, inclusion, and comprehensive education under principles of editorial ethics, transparency, and scientific integrity.

Scope:
Sapiens in Higher Education adopts a specialized approach to higher education, integrating pedagogical, technological, institutional, and social dimensions. The journal prioritizes empirical, theoretical, and applied research that contributes to the advancement of knowledge in the university context. Its main research areas include:

  • Educational Innovation in Higher Education: Development and implementation of innovative teaching and learning strategies, pedagogical transformation, active methodologies, and quality improvement in university settings.
  • Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Teaching: Integration of digital technologies in higher education, virtual learning environments, online education, digital resources, and technological competencies.
  • Pedagogy and Didactics in University Teaching: Pedagogical models, teaching practices, instructional design, learning assessment, and competency development in higher education.

Open access and no-fee policy:
Sapiens in Higher Education operates under a non-profit open-access model. All content is published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), ensuring free, permanent, and unrestricted access, as well as lawful reuse with proper attribution.

The journal does not charge any fees for submission, evaluation, processing, or publication of articles (APC), promoting equity in scientific publishing and eliminating economic barriers for researchers.

Publication frequency:
Sapiens in Higher Education was published on a monthly basis from its establishment until December 2025. As of January 2026, it adopts a semiannual publication frequency, releasing two issues per year:

First period: January – June (Official publication date: January 1).
Second period: July – December (Official publication date: July 1).

The journal follows a continuous publication model within each period, allowing accepted articles to be published immediately upon completion of the editorial process.

Editorial process and review timelines:
The editorial process is managed through digital platforms, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and quality:

Initial editorial screening: 7 to 15 days.
Double-blind peer review: 20 to 45 days.
Copyediting, technical editing, and layout: 10 to 20 days.

Editorial decisions are based exclusively on scientific quality, originality, and methodological rigor.

Promotion and dissemination strategy:
The journal implements academic visibility strategies aimed at maximizing the impact of published articles through indexing in repositories, databases, and international academic networks. It also employs interoperability standards and persistent identifiers to ensure accessibility, traceability, and effective dissemination of scientific knowledge.

Editorial management, sustainability, and principles:
Sapiens in Higher Education operates under principles of quality, editorial ethics, and academic independence. The journal follows a non-commercial model, ensuring open access to knowledge at no cost to authors.
